The six photos of Aspen are likely from about 1952 or 1953, rather than 1948, judging from the several vehicles shown of that vintage. Anyway, I love those old photos from Herb. The one from Aspen looking south toward the slopes of Aspen Mountain show several of the old metals (Au, Ag, Pb) mine dumps. I think they were cleaned up soon after the photo – they certainly would not be kosher in the present environment there even though that mining defined the early days of Aspen.
That Mr. Goodknight is ever the good one for details. Not surprizing he’d make particular note of the “mine dumps” (and know what kind!). Picking thru’ those was a favorite childhood past-time of mine, until the dumps went away and the good specimens became quite scarce.
