DOWNTOWN MOAB, UTAH
1952 & 2002
HERB RINGER, the photographer of the image above, was never quite sure about the date, but 1952 seems
like a good guess. Charlie Steen and the Uranium Boom were still a few months away.
Moab was a bucolic little ranch and farm community, known especially for its glorious orchards.
Main Street ended at Center Street in those days. To go south, travelers turned left on Center, the right on
400 East. Mill Creek Drive veered to the left of Milt’s Stop n’ Eat in those days (Milt’s was built in 1951)
and eventually made its way south into Spanish Valley and San Juan County.
Today...well today is what it is. 2010
